Biography

Steve Martin (born August 14, 1945) is an American comedian, actor, writer, musician, and producer known for his distinctive style of comedy and extensive career in film and television. Born in Waco, Texas, he began his career as a comedy writer and performer before becoming one of America's most successful stand-up comedians.

Martin gained national attention through television appearances, particularly on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Saturday Night Live. His eccentric humor and energetic stage performances made him a major comedy star during the 1970s.

He began establishing himself as a film actor with movies such as The Jerk (1979), which he co-wrote and starred in. He subsequently appeared in successful comedies including All of Me (1984), Three Amigos (1986), Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987), Roxanne (1987), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), Parenthood (1989), and Father of the Bride (1991).

Martin also demonstrated his dramatic abilities in films such as Pennies from Heaven (1981) and Grand Canyon (1991). He later appeared in films including Bowfinger (1999), Bringing Down the House (2003), It's Complicated (2009), and The Pink Panther series.

In It's Complicated, Martin played Adam Schaffer, an architect who becomes romantically involved with Jane Adler, portrayed by Meryl Streep. The film explores the complications that arise when Jane reconnects with her former husband after many years apart.

Beyond acting, Martin is an accomplished banjo player and has released several albums and performed extensively with bluegrass musicians. He is also a successful author and playwright.

Martin's television work includes the Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building, which he co-created and stars in alongside Martin Short and Selena Gomez. The series has earned numerous awards and nominations.
