Steve McCurry is an internationally acclaimed American photographer and photojournalist, best known for his powerful documentary images that capture human emotions, cultures, and conflicts around the world. Born on April 23, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, he developed an interest in photography while studying cinematography and theater at Pennsylvania State University. After graduating, he worked as a newspaper photographer before embarking on a career as a freelance photojournalist.

 

 

McCurry gained worldwide recognition in 1979 when he secretly crossed the border into Afghanistan to document the Soviet invasion. His remarkable photographs brought global attention to the conflict and established him as one of the world's leading documentary photographers. His most iconic image, "Afghan Girl," featuring the striking green-eyed refugee Sharbat Gula, appeared on the cover of National Geographic in 1985 and became one of the most recognizable photographs in history.
