Biography
Steven Levitan is an American television producer, writer, and director, born on April 6, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois. He studied journalism at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and initially worked as a television reporter and advertising copywriter before moving into comedy writing.
Levitan began writing for television with shows such as The Wonder Years, Wings, Frasier, and The Larry Sanders Show. He later created the sitcom Just Shoot Me! and worked on series including Stark Raving Mad, Greg the Bunny, Stacked, and Back to You.
His greatest success came with Modern Family, which he co-created with Christopher Lloyd. The series ran from 2009 to 2020 and became one of the most acclaimed sitcoms of its era. Levitan served as a writer, director, and executive producer and received multiple Emmy Awards for his work.
He later created and executive-produced the Hulu comedy Reboot and has continued working as a producer on television projects, including Nobody Wants This. Levitan has won nine Primetime Emmy Awards, along with honors including a Peabody Award, five Writers Guild Awards, and five Producers Guild Awards.
