Biography

Subodh Chopra is a seasoned Indian screenplay writer and film director associated with Mumbai’s film and television industry. Active since 1997, he has built a reputation for crafting emotionally driven and socially relevant narratives. His work often explores interpersonal relationships and “slice-of-life” situations, making his storytelling both relatable and impactful.

 

 

Early Career

Subodh Chopra began his career by writing screenplays and dialogues for the popular television series Reporter, aired on DD National. The show was produced and directed by Vinod Pande and starred Shekhar Suman, Mona Ambegaonkar, and Raj Kiran. The series was both critically acclaimed and widely appreciated, marking a strong beginning to his writing career.

 

 

Rise in Television

His writing talent soon led to an opportunity with Zee Entertainment Enterprises. He contributed extensively to Rishtey on Rishtey, writing seven one-hour films. During this time, he collaborated with reputed directors such as Partho Mitra, Salim Arif, Parvati Balagopalan, and Gul Khan.

 

A breakthrough came with the docu-drama series Haqeeqat, hosted by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Anuradha Prasad. The show, based on real human rights violation cases, was directed by Sourabh Narang and received critical acclaim along with several television awards. This project firmly established Subodh Chopra as a prominent writer in the industry.

 

 

Film Career

Following the success of Haqeeqat, Subodh Chopra was invited by Mahesh Bhatt to write for Vishesh Films. He went on to write the screenplay for the hit film Murder, directed by Anurag Basu. He continued his collaboration with Basu on Tumsa Nahin Dekha.

Additionally, he contributed dialogues to Rog, starring Irrfan Khan, and worked on the award-winning film Dobara, directed by Shashi Ranjan.

 

 

Direction and Other Works

Apart from writing, Subodh Chopra has directed numerous advertisements and television commercials, including campaigns for Lodha Builders through Kreative Access Media.

He has also directed episodes of Savdhaan India for Saregama Films, including an award-winning episode featuring Sarita Joshi and Jannat Zubair Rahmani.

 

In feature films, he directed the Malayalam movie Vasudha, starring Geeta Nair and Vijayan Menon, with music and lyrics by Kaithapram.

 

One of his most notable recent works is a short war film created for the Indian Army’s 13 JAK Rif Battalion. Shot in Nimu, the film featured voice-over by Amitabh Bachchan and premiered at the Vijay Diwas ceremony in New Delhi in 2019, attended by prominent dignitaries including Narendra Modi, Bipin Rawat, Rajnath Singh, and Ajit Doval.
