Biography
Sultan Rahi, born on 24th June 1942 in British India, is one of the most legendary figures in the history of Pakistani cinema. Renowned for his dynamic presence and powerful performances, he became the face of Punjabi cinema in Pakistan and is regarded as one of the most popular and successful film actors of his era.
Rahi's career began in the early 1960s when he appeared in minor roles in various films. However, it was his role in the iconic Punjabi film Maula Jatt (1979) that cemented his place as a superstar in Pakistan's film industry. The film, in which he portrayed the rugged and fierce Maula Jatt, became a massive hit and made him a household name. The character’s raw, intense persona captured the public’s imagination, and Rahi became synonymous with the Punjabi action hero.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Sultan Rahi's career flourished as he starred in over 700 films. His performances, particularly in Punjabi action films, made him a beloved figure across the country. He was often cast in films where he played the role of a strong, courageous man fighting against injustice, and his robust physicality and commanding screen presence made him the perfect fit for such roles.
Some of his other major hits include Babul Da Wairis (1971), Jatt Da Mahi (1980), and Mera Naam Hai Moti (1982). His collaborations with other notable stars of the era, including actor Mustafa Qureshi, became part of the golden era of Pakistani cinema. Sadly, Sultan Rahi's life was cut short when he was tragically murdered in 1996, leaving behind a void in the film industry. Despite his untimely death, his legacy as the "King of Punjabi Cinema" endures.
