Sumit Purohit

Biography

Sumit is an Indian filmmaker, best known for being the leading writer and editor on Sony Liv's Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. The show which was directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Applause Entertainment is based on the book by Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu. 

 

It was released to widespread critical acclaim on SonyLiv. Sumit was one of the artists selected for the esteemed BAFTA Breakthrough Program, India edition. He was also the co-writer for Bangistan and Amazon Prime Video's first Indian original series Inside Edge, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. 

 

He also worked on the second season of Inside Edge. Sumit graduated in Art History and Aesthetics from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Baroda. His first film screenplay was for the Children's Film Festival India produced film Nandu ka Raja. 

 

His documentary I Woke Up One Morning & Found Myself Famous was widely shown around the country. He has also made corporate and ad films for Coca-Cola, TATA, Asian Paints, Finolex, Microsoft, etc. 

 

Currently, Sumit's debut feature documentary titled Charlie Champion is in the last stage of completion. He recently directed a short film for Civic Studios and is currently working on several projects with leading producers.
