Born Nidhi Chauhan on August 14, 1983, in New Delhi, Sunidhi's passion for music ignited at an early age. Her father, Dushyant Kumar Chauhan, a theatre personality, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. At the tender age of four, Sunidhi began performing at local gatherings and competitions, honing her skills and captivating audiences with her natural flair.   

 

 

Her talent caught the attention of television host Tabassum, who recognized her potential and advised her family to move to Mumbai, the heart of the Indian entertainment industry. There, Sunidhi was introduced to Kalyanji Virji Shah and Anandji Virji Shah, legendary music composers who played a crucial role in shaping her career. It was Kalyanji who suggested she change her name to Sunidhi, believing it to be more auspicious.   

 

 

From Reality Show Winner to Playback Sensation

Sunidhi's journey to stardom began with her participation in and victory at the first singing reality show in India, "Meri Awaz Suno," in 1996. This win provided her with a platform to showcase her talent and paved the way for her entry into the world of playback singing.

At the age of 13, Sunidhi made her debut as a playback singer in the film "Shastra" (1996). However, it was her song "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" from the film "Mast" (1999) that catapulted her to fame. Her soulful rendition and expressive vocals resonated with listeners, earning her the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.
