Early Life and Career Beginnings

Born in New Jersey in 1952, Susan E. Morse developed an early interest in film and storytelling. She pursued higher education at Princeton University, where she studied comparative literature before entering the film world. Her passion for the craft of editing quickly became evident, and she began her professional journey working as an assistant editor.

Breakthrough and Collaboration with Woody Allen

 

Morse’s editing career took off when she began working with Woody Allen in the late 1970s. Over the next two decades, she edited more than 20 of his films, becoming a key creative collaborator. Her work with Allen is widely praised for its seamless pacing, emotional subtlety, and rhythm that perfectly complements the director’s distinctive tone and dialogue-driven scripts.
