Career
Kirkire has made significant contributions to Indian cinema both as a lyricist and a performer. He has won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics twice: first in 2006 for "Bande Me Tha Dum...Vande Mataram" from Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and again in 2009 for "Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh" from 3 Idiots. He was also nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Lyrics for "Piyu Bole" in Parineeta (2005).
In addition to his work as a lyricist, Kirkire has appeared on screen. He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 66th National Film Awards in 2018 for his performance in the Marathi film Chumbak. He has also made cameo appearances, including as Sansad Ji in Panchayat 3 and as Mansoor Khan Sahab in Qala, where he also contributed to the soundtrack as a lyricist and singer.
