Swapnil S. Sonawane
Biography
Swapnil is a cinematographer widely known for his work on Sacred Games, India's first Netflix Original Series. He debuted with director Pan Nalin's feature documentary Faith Connections.
Swapnil started his journey independently on popular travel and music-related shows like Dewarists - Season One (a musical television series on MTV India) and MTV's Sound Trippin and television commercials for brands such as Vodafone, Flipkart, etc. Apart from that, he has worked on critically acclaimed features like Angry Indian Goddesses by Pan Nalin, Zubaan directed by Mozez Singh, and Newton directed by Amit Masurkar which was India's official selection for the 2018 Oscars.
His Marathi feature film titled Dhappa directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari won a National Award for Best Film for National Integration in 2018. His latest projects include Pan Nalin's feature film Last Film Show, which won the best film award at the Internation Gujarati Film Festival in 2022, as well as Vikramaditya Motwane's experimental thriller AK vs AK starring Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap.
He also worked on the Netflix Anthology Ray, an adaptation of short stories from the auteur Satyajit Ray. Swapnil's most recent collaborations have been with Vasan Bala on a comedy crime feature, Monica O My Darling which is a Netflix Original Feature headlined by Rajkumar Rao, Radhika Apte, and Huma Qureshi. His most recent release has been with director Harshavardhan Kulkarni's Badhaai Do.
