Biography
Swaroop Sampat is an Indian actress, theatre artist, model, and social worker known for her work in Hindi cinema and television. She was born on 3 November 1958 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She began her career as a model and gained national recognition after winning the Femina Miss India title in 1979.
Sampat entered the entertainment industry during the late 1970s and became known for her performances in Hindi films and television. Some of her notable film appearances include Naram Garam (1981), Nazarana (1987), Himmatwala (1983), and Saath Saath (1982). She became particularly popular for her ability to portray both humorous and emotionally grounded characters.
She later became widely recognized for her role as Madhavi's mother in the television series Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, one of the landmark Hindi sitcoms of the 1980s. She also appeared in several other television and film projects over the years.
Sampat married actor Paresh Rawal in 1987. Alongside her entertainment career, she developed a strong interest in education and social work. She earned a doctorate in education and has worked extensively on programmes related to children's education and the development of life skills.
She returned to mainstream Hindi cinema with prominent appearances in films such as Ki & Ka (2016) and Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). She also appeared in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008) and other contemporary productions.
