Tamzin Merchant

Biography

Tamzin Merchant is an English actress, writer, director, and producer, born on March 4, 1987, in Haywards Heath, Sussex, England. She spent part of her childhood in Dubai and later studied at Homerton College, University of Cambridge, where she earned a first-class degree in Education Studies.

 

Merchant began her professional acting career as Georgiana Darcy in Joe Wright's Pride & Prejudice (2005), starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. She later appeared in the television series The Tudors, portraying Catherine Howard, the fifth wife of Henry VIII.

 

Her other notable screen credits include Princess Kaiulani (2009), Jane Eyre (2011), Red Faction: Origins (2011), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (2012), Copenhagen (2014), The Messenger (2015), and the Dragonheart films. She also played Anne Hale in the supernatural drama series Salem from 2014 to 2017 and Lyra Strayd in Supergirl.

 

Merchant became widely recognized for playing Imogen Spurnrose in the fantasy series Carnival Row, appearing throughout its two-season run from 2019 to 2023.

Alongside acting, Merchant has pursued writing and directing. She has written and directed several short films, including American Virgin, with her short-film work receiving recognition at independent film festivals.

 

With experience across period dramas, fantasy, supernatural series, and contemporary productions, Merchant has established herself as a versatile performer while also developing her career behind the camera as a writer and director.
