T.A. Razak
Biography
T. A. Razak (25 April 1958 – 15 August 2016) was a prominent Indian screenwriter, story writer, dialogue writer and director who worked mainly in Malayalam cinema. He was born in Thurakkal, Kondotty, Kerala, and was the elder brother of screenwriter T. A. Shahid.
Razak entered the film industry as an assistant director and later turned to screenwriting. His first major writing credit was Vishnulokam (1991), directed by Kamal. He subsequently wrote stories, screenplays and dialogues for films such as Nadodi (1992), Ghazal (1993), Karma (1995), Kanakkinavu (1996), Thalolam (1998), Sneham (1998), Uthaman (2001), Balettan (2003), Perumazhakkalam (2004), Rappakal (2005), Bus Conductor (2005), Aayirathil Oruvan (2009) and Saigal Padukayanu (2015).
He received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay and Best Story for Kanakkinavu in 1996. He later won the Best Story award for Aayirathil Oruvan and Perumazhakkalam. His writing was often noted for its focus on human relationships, emotional conflicts, and social issues.
Razak made his directorial debut with Moonnam Naal Njayarazhcha (2016), which was also his only film as a director. His final screenplay credit was Sukhamayirikkatte (2016).
T. A. Razak died on 15 August 2016 in Kochi, aged 58, after undergoing treatment for a liver-related illness. He is remembered as one of the notable Malayalam screenwriters of the 1990s and 2000s.
