Tarita Teriipaia is a French Polynesian actress and former dancer who gained worldwide recognition through her role in the historical epic Mutiny on the Bounty (1962). Although her film career was brief, her performance and her association with Marlon Brando made her a memorable figure in international cinema.

Tarita Teriipaia was born on December 29, 1941, in Bora Bora, French Polynesia. She grew up in a traditional Polynesian family and developed an interest in dance and performance from an early age.

Before entering films, she worked as a dancer and performer in French Polynesia, where she was discovered by filmmakers looking for authentic local talent.

 

 

Film Career

Tarita made her acting debut in ** Mutiny on the Bounty (1962)**, directed by Lewis Milestone and starring Marlon Brando and Trevor Howard.

She played Maimiti, the daughter of the chief of Tahiti, who becomes romantically involved with Fletcher Christian, played by Brando. Her performance brought a sense of warmth and authenticity to the film and introduced her to audiences around the world.

The film was one of the largest productions of its time, featuring extensive location filming in the Pacific and a major Hollywood cast.

 

 

Relationship with Marlon Brando

During the filming of Mutiny on the Bounty, Tarita met Marlon Brando, and the two developed a relationship. They married in 1962 and remained together until their divorce in 1972.
