T.A. Shahid

Biography

T. A. Shahid was an Indian screenwriter and dialogue writer who worked primarily in Malayalam cinema. Born on 25 May 1972, he was the younger brother of acclaimed Malayalam screenwriter T. A. Razzaq. He was active in the film industry from 2003 until he died in 2012.

Career

T. A. Shahid began his screenwriting career with Balettan (2003), directed by V. M. Vinu and starring Mohanlal. The film was a commercial success and established him as a promising writer in Malayalam cinema.

He went on to write films including Natturajavu (2004), Maampazhakkaalam (2004), Malsaram (2003), Ben Johnson (2005), Rajamanikyam (2005), Pachakuthira (2006), Khaki (2007), Alibhai (2007), Thanthonni (2010) and MLA Mani: Patham Classum Gusthiyum (2012).

Rajamanikyam

One of Shahid's most celebrated works was Rajamanikyam (2005), directed by Anwar Rasheed and starring Mammootty as Bellary Raja. Shahid wrote the story for the film, which became a major commercial success and remains a popular Malayalam film.

His writing often focused on strong central characters, family conflicts, action, drama, and commercial entertainment. He also wrote screenplay and dialogue for several of his films, demonstrating his versatility as a screenwriter.

Death

T. A. Shahid died on 28 September 2012 at the age of 41 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He had been suffering from cirrhosis.

Although his career lasted less than a decade, Shahid made a notable contribution to Malayalam commercial cinema. His work on films such as Balettan and Rajamanikyam remains an important part of his legacy as a screenwriter.
