Biography

Taylor Schilling was born on 27 July 1984 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She is an American actress best known for her work in television, film, and theatre. She graduated from Fordham University with a degree in acting and later attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts before leaving the program to pursue professional acting.

 

Schilling made her feature-film debut in Dark Matter (2007), followed by her breakthrough television role as Nurse Veronica Flanagan Callahan in NBC's medical drama Mercy (2009–2010). She later portrayed Dagny Taggart in Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) and starred opposite Zac Efron in the romantic drama The Lucky One (2012).

 

Her biggest breakthrough came with Netflix's Orange Is the New Black (2013–2019), in which she played Piper Chapman, a woman sentenced to federal prison after becoming involved in transporting drug money for her former girlfriend. The role earned Schilling a Primetime Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations, along with several other awards and nominations.

 

Her other notable film credits include Argo (2012), The Overnight (2015), Take Me (2017), The Titan (2018), The Prodigy (2019), The Public (2018), and Family (2018). She has also appeared in television productions such as Monsterland, Pam & Tommy, Dear Edward, Poker Face, and Accused.

 

Schilling has also maintained a presence in theatre, appearing in productions such as A Month in the Country, Uncle Vanya, and The Apiary.
