Biography

Terence Yin Chi-wai, born on May 19, 1975, in Hong Kong, is a multifaceted artist known for his contributions to film, music, and media. As the son of renowned Shaw Brothers Studios actress Jenny Hu and film director Kang Wei, Yin was introduced to the entertainment industry early in life.

 

Early Life and Education

At the age of seven, Yin and his older brother, Christopher, moved to Los Angeles, California. He completed his high school education at Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra in 1993. Pursuing higher education, Yin earned a degree in Philosophy, specializing in rhetoric, from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1997.

 

Acting Career

Yin's acting career commenced with his debut in Yonfan's 1998 film "Bishonen," where he starred opposite Daniel Wu, a close friend and frequent collaborator. He gained international recognition with his role as Xien in the 2003 Hollywood film "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life," sharing the screen with Angelina Jolie. 

 

In 2012, Yin appeared in "The Man with the Iron Fists," a film that featured a diverse cast from Hollywood, Hong Kong, and China. His versatility as an actor is evident from his extensive filmography, which includes over 30 films such as "New Police Story" (2004), "Rob-B-Hood" (2006), and "Cold War" (2012).

 

Music Endeavors

In addition to acting, Yin explored a music career by releasing a solo album titled "Undecided" in Taiwan in 1999. Although the album met with limited success, his passion for music persisted. In 2005, he co-founded the boy band "Alive" alongside Daniel Wu, Conroy Chan, and Andrew Lin. This venture was part of a multimedia project that led to the creation of the mockumentary "The Heavenly Kings" (2006), which offered a satirical look into the Hong Kong entertainment industry.

 

Entrepreneurial Ventures

Demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit, Yin became a partner in the online social network Alivenotdead.com. Initially launched to support the film "The Heavenly Kings" and the band Alive, the platform was relaunched in April 2007 as a community aimed at supporting artists worldwide.

 

Personal Life

On May 1, 2024, Terence Yin married Dongdong Xu, marking a new chapter in his personal life.
