T. G. Thyagarajan

Biography

T.G. Thyagarajan is a prominent Indian film producer, primarily active in Tamil cinema. He is the founder of Sathya Jyothi Films, a well-known production and distribution company. His father, Venus Govindarajan, was also a reputed film producer, and his father-in-law, R. M. Veerappan, was a renowned producer and distributor. Thyagarajan pursued an MBA in the United States before entering the film industry.

 

 

Career Highlights

Thyagarajan began his career working with his father-in-law’s production company, Satya Movies. In the 1980s, he founded Sathya Jyothi Films, which has since become a major player in Tamil cinema. His debut as an independent producer was with the critically acclaimed film Moondram Pirai (1982), starring Kamal Haasan, which was both a commercial success and won the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Film.

In 2020, he was appointed Chairman of the Task Force on Media and Entertainment at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Region.

Thyagarajan is married to V. Thamilazhagan and has two children. His son, S. Thiyagarajan, is actively involved in the family business, continuing the legacy of Sathya Jyothi Films.
