Biography
Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam is an Indian film director who primarily works in the South Indian film industry. Tharun made his directorial debut with a short film titled Anukokunda, which received international recognition.
Tharun decided to get into filmmaking after he made a short AV (audio video) for his school farewell function. Besides being a filmmaker, Tharun is also a certified tabla artist.
An engineering graduate, the director admits that he took up engineering out of peer pressure. He also took up a one-month film-making course conducted by the New York Film Academy in Mumbai.
Dreaming of becoming a filmmaker, Tharun first participated in the 48-hour Film Project in 2012. He along with his friends, Upendra Varma, Ranjit Kumar, and Hari Varun, came up with the romantic short film titled Anukokunda (meaning: unexpectedly).
The short film went on to become the best short film of India in 2012 and was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2013 in The Best of 48-hour film project - Short Film Corner Thematic Programs.
In 2016, he made his feature film directorial debut with the Telugu-romantic comedy Pellichoopulu starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma. The movie made with a mere budget of INR 1.5 crore, received critical and commercial acclaim at the box office.
He later directed the 2018 comedy, Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi. The movie starred Vishwak Sen, Sai Sushanth, Abhinav Gomatam, and Venkatesh Kakumanu in lead roles. His 2019 release includes Meeku Maathrame Cheptha.
In 2010, Tharun Bhascker co-founded the production house, Vinoothna Geeta. The production house has successfully made several corporate videos, wedding films, and short films.
