Biography
Tod Campbell is an American cinematographer and camera department professional, born on May 30, 1972, in Austin, Texas. He is particularly recognized for his work in television, where his visual style has contributed to several acclaimed drama and thriller series.
Campbell gained major recognition as the director of photography for the USA Network psychological thriller Mr. Robot (2015–2019). He served as cinematographer on 44 episodes and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series for his work on the show.
He also worked as director of photography on Netflix's Stranger Things, contributing to four episodes during the show's early seasons. His other television cinematography credits include Homecoming, The Affair, Togetherness, Sleepy Hollow, Briarpatch, and Angelyne.
Campbell's feature-film work includes Boyhood (2014), on which he worked in the camera and electrical department, as well as Buck Wild (2013) and Leave the World Behind (2023), where he served as director of photography. He also photographed the 2024 film Lake George.
His collaboration with filmmaker Sam Esmail extends beyond Mr. Robot. Campbell served as cinematographer on all 10 episodes of the first season of Homecoming (2018), further establishing their creative partnership.
