Biography

Osman Sonant was born on 1 March 1979 in Istanbul, Turkey. He is a Turkish actor and musician who began his acting career in 1997 at the Bahçelievler Municipal Theatre, where he trained under actor Yılmaz Gruda. He later worked with Ferhan Şensoy’s Ortaoyuncular Nöbetçi Theatre and studied Stage Arts at Istanbul University State Conservatory.

 

Sonant gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Yavuz in the popular surreal comedy series Leyla ile Mecnun (2011–2013). He later appeared in productions such as Beş Kardeş, Fi, Ufak Tefek Cinayetler, Uyanış: Büyük Selçuklu, and Sıcak Kafa.

 

His notable film credits include Pandora's Box (2008), Yangın Var (2011), İtirazım Var (2014), Yolsuzlar Çetesi (2016), and Bihter (2023). His performance in Pandora's Box earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the 16th Golden Boll Film Festival in 2009, while Yangın Var brought him the Best Actor award at the 23rd Ankara International Film Festival in 2012.

 

Sonant also gained international exposure through Netflix's historical docudrama Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020), in which he portrayed Loukas Notaras. In addition to acting, he has participated in music projects, including songs associated with Leyla ile Mecnun and Beş Kardeş.
