Biography

Tom Selleck (born January 29, 1945) is an American actor and producer best known for his television and film roles. Born Thomas William Selleck in Detroit, Michigan, he studied business administration at the University of Southern California before pursuing acting. He also served in the California Army National Guard during the 1960s.

Selleck began his acting career with small television and commercial appearances before gaining recognition in the 1970s. His breakthrough came with the television series Magnum, P.I. (1980–1988), in which he played private investigator Thomas Magnum. The role made him an international star and earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

His film career includes The Sacketts (1979), High Road to China (1983), Lassiter (1984), Three Men and a Baby (1987), Quigley Down Under (1990), Mr. Baseball (1992), and In & Out (1997). He became particularly popular for combining action, comedy, and drama in his performances.

Selleck also appeared in numerous television productions, including Friends, where he played Dr. Richard Burke, and Jesse Stone, a series of television films based on Robert B. Parker's novels. From 2010 onward, he starred as Frank Reagan, the New York City Police Commissioner, in the long-running CBS crime drama Blue Bloods.

Beyond acting, Selleck has worked as a producer and has received several awards and nominations throughout his career. His distinctive mustache, deep voice, and relaxed screen presence have become closely associated with his public image.

With a career spanning more than five decades, Tom Selleck remains one of America's best-known television and film actors, particularly recognized for Magnum, P.I., Three Men and a Baby, Jesse Stone, and Blue Bloods.
