Tony Basgallop

Biography

Tony Basgallop is a British television writer, producer, and showrunner, born in July 1968 in Brighton, England. He began his writing career in British television, contributing to programmes such as Children's Ward, Casualty, EastEnders, Teachers, and Outlaws. Between 1996 and 2002, he wrote 44 episodes of EastEnders.

 

Basgallop later created the BBC drama series Hotel Babylon, which aired from 2006 to 2009. He also wrote the television films Worried About the Boy (2010) and Hughie Green, Most Sincerely (2008), as well as the miniseries Inside Men (2012) and What Remains (2013).

 

He expanded his career into American television by writing for series including 24: Live Another Day, 24: Legacy, Resurrection, Outcast, and Berlin Station. His international career reached a major milestone with Servant (2019–2023), a psychological horror series he created and executive produced. The show ran for four seasons and starred Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Nell Tiger Free, and Rupert Grint.

 

Basgallop also created and served as showrunner and executive producer of The Consultant (2023), an Amazon Prime Video thriller starring Christoph Waltz, Nat Wolff, and Brittany O'Grady. The eight-episode series follows employees at the gaming company CompWare after the mysterious Regus Patoff takes control of the business.

 

Known for combining psychological tension, dark humor, mystery, and unconventional storytelling, Basgallop has established a distinctive career spanning British television, American dramas, psychological thrillers, and horror.
