Usha Khanna (born 7 October 1941) is an Indian music composer and playback singer who is regarded as one of the few successful female music directors in the history of Hindi cinema. With a career spanning over five decades, she composed music for more than 300 films and created numerous memorable songs across a wide range of genres.

Early Life

Usha Khanna was born on 7 October 1941 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. She was the daughter of lyricist Manohar Khanna, who encouraged her interest in music from an early age. She received formal training in music before entering the Hindi film industry.

Career

Usha Khanna made a remarkable debut as a music director with Dil Deke Dekho (1959), becoming one of the first women to achieve success as a composer in Bollywood. The film's soundtrack was a major hit and established her as a talented newcomer.
