Vakkantham Vamsi

Biography

Taking forward his father Vakkantham Suryanarayana Rao`s legacy of writing forward, Vakkantham Vamsi is an Indian writer, primarily associated with the Telugu film industry. An alumnus of the Sri Venkateswara University, Vamsi made his debut in 2002 with Kaluskovalani, which went on to become a hit.

Before debuting as a screenwriter or even entering the film industry, Vamsi worked as a television anchor and a news presenter. He also briefly acted in Bapu-Ramana`s serial Bhagavatham, which aired on the ETV Network.

Ever since making his writing debut, he worked on movies like Ashok (2006), and Athidhi (2007), both of which were moderately successful. His big break came with the Ravi Teja and Ileana D`Cruz-starrer Kick in 2009, which went on to become a blockbuster hit.

It was then remade in Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada. Among his other writing credits are Kalyanram Kathi, Oosaravelli, Yevadu, Race Gurram, and Temper, which loosely inspired the story and plot line of Rohit Shetty`s 2018 project Simmba.

After the success of Kick in 2009, the makers announced its sequel Kick 2, which was released in 2015, however, the movie opened to mixed reviews and was an average grosser at the box office. Vamsi`s 2017 project includes the Telugu action film Aaradugula Bullet, following which he was associated with the Ravi Teja-starrer Touch Chesi Chudu in 2018.

The same year, he made his directorial debut with the Allu Arjun-starrer action drama Naa Peru Surya - Naa Illu India, which he also wrote. His 2018 release includes Simmba. His 2019 release includes Ayogya, directed by Venkat Mohan.
