Vignesh Shivan, born on September 18, 1985, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a prominent Indian film director, screenwriter, lyricist, and producer primarily working in the Tamil film industry. Known for his creative flair and versatile contributions, Shivan has established himself as a significant figure in contemporary Kollywood.
Early Life and Career Beginnings:
Vignesh Shivan's journey in cinema began with his directorial debut, Podaa Podi, a romantic comedy released in 2012, which also saw him making a cameo appearance and writing the film. Before this, he had an uncredited acting role in the 2007 film Sivi. He later took on the role of Vignesh in the 2014 film Velaiyilla Pattathari.
Breakthrough and Notable Works:
His career gained significant momentum with the critically acclaimed black comedy film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara. Shivan not only directed but also wrote this box office hit, earning him the SIIMA Award for Best Director.
Following this success, he directed Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018), a period heist film featuring Suriya and Keerthy Suresh, further showcasing his versatility across genres. In 2020, he directed a segment in the anthology series Paava Kadhaigal.
