Viji Thampi

Biography

Viji Thampi is an Indian filmmaker, actor, and writer primarily associated with Malayalam cinema. He made his directorial debut with David David Mr. David in 1988 and went on to become a prominent director during the late 1980s and 1990s.

Thampi is known for directing films across several genres, including thrillers, comedy, drama, action, and political subjects. Some of his notable films include Witness (1988), Nagarangalil Chennu Raparkam (1990), Soorya Manasam (1992), Journalist (1993), Janam (1993), Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu (1994), Simhavalan Menon (1995), Manthrika Kuthira (1996), Sathyameva Jayathe (2000), Bada Dosth (2006), Nammal Thammil (2009), April Fool (2010), Nadakame Ulakam (2011), and Nadodimannan (2013).

As an actor, he has appeared in supporting and cameo roles in several Malayalam films, including Soorya Manasam, Journalist, Simhavalan Menon, Sathyameva Jayathe, Krithyam, and Nadodimannan. He has also received credits as a writer and story contributor on some of his projects.

Among his well-known works, Witness is a 1988 crime thriller starring Jayaram, Jagathy Sreekumar, Madhu, Suresh Gopi, Parvathy, and others. Nadodimannan (2013), starring Dileep, was his later feature film and presented a satirical take on corruption and favoritism.

Beyond filmmaking, Thampi has also been involved in television and social activities. His television credits include directing the crime-thriller series Black and White and the mythological serial Devimahathmyam.
