Biography

Yoon Sung-sik is a South Korean television director and producer, born in 1970. He has built a long career in Korean television, directing productions across historical drama, romance, fantasy, comedy, and action.

He began directing for television with projects such as Drama City and later worked on the historical series Dae Jo-yeong (2006–2007) and the action drama The Slingshot (2009). He subsequently directed Bridal Mask (2012), You Are the Best! (2013), The King's Face (2014–2015), and Hwarang (2016–2017).

Yoon continued his career with the political thriller Babel (2019) and the highly popular body-swap historical comedy Mr. Queen (2020–2021). He later directed the workplace drama Cleaning Up (2022).

In The Haunted Palace (2025), Yoon Sung-sik served as one of the directors alongside Kim Ji-yoon. The 16-episode SBS fantasy period drama stars Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon. It follows Yeo-ri, a gifted woman who rejects her shamanic destiny, and the Imugi Gang Cheol, who becomes connected to her first love, as they confront a vengeful spirit haunting the royal palace.

Yoon described the series as a fantasy romantic comedy that balances romance, comedy, and occult elements, aiming to make its supernatural story accessible while still retaining its darker atmosphere.

Through works such as Bridal Mask, Hwarang, Mr. Queen, and The Haunted Palace, Yoon Sung-sik has established himself as a versatile Korean television director, particularly experienced in historical, fantasy, romance, comedy, and action-oriented dramas.
