Biography
Yul Brynner was a Russian-American actor best known for his distinctive shaved head, commanding screen presence, and performances in major Hollywood productions.
He was born Yuliy Borisovich Briner on July 11, 1920, in Vladivostok, Russian Far East. He began his career as a performer in theater and later achieved international fame through both stage and film roles.
Brynner became a major star with The King and I (1956), playing King Mongkut of Siam. His performance earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. He later reprised the role on stage and became closely associated with the character.
His notable films include The Ten Commandments (1956), Anastasia (1956), The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), Kings of the Sun (1963), Westworld (1973), and Futureworld (1976).
He continued performing on stage and screen for decades, particularly in The King and I, which he performed thousands of times.
Yul Brynner died on October 10, 1985, in New York City, at the age of 65. He remains one of the most recognizable stars of Hollywood's Golden Age.
