Merck's passion for film was ignited at a young age, having been raised in movie theaters due to his father's role as a marketing executive for a prominent theater chain. This early exposure to the cinematic world, filled with the works of directors like Spielberg, Lucas, and the Scott brothers, shaped his aspirations. He began his career in Hollywood with director Tony Scott at Scott Free Films, where he honed his craft, learning about camera movement, appreciating actors, and leading a crew effectively. Tony Scott also instilled in him the value of directing commercials to explore different genres and continually create.
