Zeeshan Maqsood

Biography

Zeeshan Maqsood, born on October 24, 1987, in Chichawatni, Punjab, Pakistan, has become a pivotal figure in the Oman national cricket team. A left-handed opening batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, Maqsood is a seasoned all-rounder who has captained the national side.   

 

 

Maqsood moved to Oman in his early teens and credited Manzoor Elahi and Saleem Elahi for their help in his cricketing development. He made his debut for Oman in the 2012 ACC Trophy Elite. His T20 International debut came against Afghanistan on July 25, 2015, during the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament. He also made his List A debut in October 2016 against the United Arab Emirates.

 

Key Career Highlights:

T20I Debut: July 25, 2015, vs Afghanistan.

ODI Debut: April 27, 2019, vs Namibia.

 

 

Captained Oman in the 2018 Asia Cup Qualifier, the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Three tournament, the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament.

 

 

Led Oman to gain ODI status during the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament.

Scored his maiden ODI century (109 runs) against the United States on February 11, 2020.   

Captained Oman in the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier and the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

 

 

He was named the ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Year in January 2022.   

Selected for Oman's squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, although the captaincy was transferred to Aqib Ilyas.   

 

 

As of May 10, 2025, Zeeshan Maqsood has played 48 ODIs, scoring 1273 runs with two centuries and seven half-centuries, and has taken 58 wickets. In 73 T20Is, he has scored 1369 runs, including one century and five half-centuries, and has taken 51 wickets.

 

 

Known for his leadership and all-around skills, Zeeshan Maqsood has been instrumental in the growth of cricket in Oman and has represented the nation in major international tournaments.
