Directed by Smeep Kang, the Carry On Jatta series has been a huge success and the first in the series, released in 2012, propelled Gippy Grewal to stardom, putting Punjabi cinema on the map. The third in the series, Carry On Jatta 3 relies on the brand of humour perfected by Kang but with mixed results.
Movie Reviews Australia
The film unfolds in London, where Jass (Gippy Grewal) is an eligible bachelor, whose father Advocate Dhillon (Jaswinder Bhalla) wants him to get married. Jass falls in love with Meet (Sonam Bajwa). However, as always, there’s a twist. Meet’s uncle Dilawer (Nasir Chinyoti) has a tiff with Advocate Dhillon and both sides resolutely decide against the marriage.
Undeterred, Jass devises a plot with his friend, Honey (Gurpreet Ghuggi), in order to get the woman of his dreams. One hare-brained scheme after another abounds and in navigating the challenges that come his way, Jass finds himself in a much bigger mess than before. In order to hide one lie, the two friends rope in Goldie (Binnu Dhillon) and together, they weave a web of lies. The rest of the film focuses on Jass and Goldie untangling themselves from the madness that ensues and getting the families to agree to Jass and Meet’s union.
An overall family entertainer, Carry On Jatta 3 is sure to repeat the success of its earlier films. Despite its flaws, audiences will be flocking to the cinema halls to make the most of the early release on the Eid weekend.
