Prabhas
Biography
Born as Prabhas Raju Uppalapati, Prabhas is a popular Indian actor who appears in Telugu cinema. He is the nephew of the veteran actor of the Telugu film industry, Uppalapati Krishnam Raju. In the year 2015, Prabhas starred in the movie, Baahubali, which is one of the highest grossing movies of Indian cinema and later reprised his titular role in Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which became the first Indian film in the history of Indian cinema to gross 1000 crores INR at the box office. The huge star that Prabhas is, the actor not only has a huge fan base across India but also over the years has earned several nick names from his fans including Mr. Perfect, Pubsi and Prabha.
Early Life
Born to Siva Kumari and the famous Telugu director and producer, Uppalapati Suryanarayan Raju, Prabhas is the youngest amongst his siblings: he has an elder brother Pramod and a sister Pragathi.
Acting Career
Prabhas made his debut in the Telugu film industry with the movie Eeshwar in the year 2002. Much was expected from the movie, however, it failed to impress the audience and was termed as an `average hit`. Likewise, Prabhas failed to leave an impression on the box office with his second release as well. His second movie, Raghuvendra, which was released in 2003, also wasn`t well received by the audience. However, his next movie, Varsham (2004), which also starred Trisha Krishnan and Gopichand, was commercially successful. Varsham marked his stardom in the Telugu film industry and Prabhas also won the Best Young Performer at the Santosham Film Awards and his co-star, Trisha, bagged the Filmfare Best Actress award for the movie.
Following his success with Varsham, Prabhas` next movie was highly anticipated. However, his next movie, Adavi Ramdu (2004), received negative reception at the box office and and failed to live up to the audience`s expectation.
In the year 2005, Prabhas starred in S.S. Rajamouli`s Chatrapati, which ran for over a 100 days at around 54 cinema theaters. It was a huge hit and his screen presence was highly praised. However, for a second time in a row in his career, Prabhas followed a hit with a movie which disappointed his fans. His next release in 2006, Pournami, proved to be a failure at the box office.
Later, Prabhas appeared in Yogi (2007), and Munna (2009), which achieved mediocre success at the box office but was well received bymost of his fans. In the next few years, Prabhas starred in movies such as Billa (2009) and Ek Niranjan (2013) - both these movies did exceptionally well and Prabhas also received a Filmfare nomination for his performance in Ek Niranjan.
After starring in a couple of romantic-comedy movies - Darling (2011), and Mr. Perfect (2012) - Prabhas appeared in an action film, Rebel (2014), directed by Raghava Lawrence. In the same year, the actor made his debut in a Bollywood film with a cameo appearance in Action Jackson, an Indian action coedy film directed by Prabhudeva and featuring Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha and Yami Gautam in pivotal roles. Prabhas followed this with two blockbuster hits - Mirchi (2013) and Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). The latter became the highest grossing movie of the year and it also won the National Film Award for Best Special Effects. In preparation for his role in the film, the actor underwent a strict diet regime, which included eating about 40 egg whites everyday as well as he took special training in rock climbing. The highest paid actor in the Telugu industry reprises his role in the second installment of the Baahubali franchise, which is titled Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which released in April 2017. His 2019 release includes Saaho. He then featured in Radhe Shyam (2022), Adipurush (2023), Salaar (2023) and Project K (2023).
