K. Baburaj was born in 1921 in Kozhikode, Kerala, to Jan Muhammed, a musician from Bengal, and a Malayali mother. His father, a Hindustani musician, introduced him to music at an early age. However, Baburaj lost his father at a young age and had to face numerous hardships. Despite these struggles, his passion for music remained undeterred.
Career
Baburaj started his musical journey by performing in small concerts and composing for theatre productions. His deep understanding of Hindustani music, coupled with his ability to create simple yet soulful melodies, made him a sought-after composer in the Malayalam film industry.
His breakthrough came in the 1950s when he composed music for the movie Minnaminungu (1957). The success of its songs paved the way for his illustrious career.
