Govind Dalwadi

Biography

Govind Dalwadi started his career as an apprentice with editor Dharam Veer. Shakti Samanta, whose films Dharam Veer used to edit, was so impressed with Dalwadi that he gave him a break as associate editor in Kashmir Ki Kali

After seeing his work in Kashmir Ki Kali, Samanta gave him a break as an independent editor in An Evening In Paris, but under the supervision of Dharam Veer. After that, Shakti Samanta gave Govind Dalwadi Aradhana to edit independently, after seeking Dharam Veer’s consent.

Among the many films Govind Ji lent his golden editorial touch to were Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Nagina, Dulhe Raja, Mangal Pandey: The Rising, Amar Prem, Kati Patang, and Heer Ranjha.

Recalling his long association with Dalwadi, prolific producer-director K.C. Bokadia said, “He edited around 14-15 films of mine. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in touch with him in recent times.” Govind Dalwadi had given up editing for almost 10 years. He had wanted to direct a Gujarati film followed by a Hindi film but that dream remained unfulfilled.

Veteran film editor Govind Dalwadi passed away on 16th May in Bombay due to COVID-19 complications. He was 85 and is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters and their families. His son, Deepak, informed that Govind ji had tested negative for COVID on 14th May but the end came two days later due to pneumonia.
