Biography

Karunas, born as Karunanidhi Sethu on February 21, 1970, is a well-known Indian actor, comedian, playback singer, music composer, and politician who works mainly in the Tamil film industry. Born in Kuruvikkarambai, Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, he developed an early interest in folk music and performing arts. Before entering the cinema, he worked as a folk and gaana singer, earning recognition for his energetic musical performances.

 

 

Karunas began his film career with the movie Nandha (2001), directed by Bala, where his comic role received positive attention. He soon became a popular supporting actor and appeared in many successful Tamil films such as Baba, Pithamagan, Vasool Raja MBBS, and Polladhavan. His natural humour, village-style dialogue delivery, and expressive acting made him a favourite among audiences.

 

 

Apart from comedy roles, Karunas proved his versatility by playing lead characters in films like Dindigul Sarathy and Ambasamudram Ambani. In addition to acting, he contributed to cinema as a producer, playback singer, and music composer. His long career reflects his ability to adapt to different roles in the entertainment industry.

 

 

Karunas also entered politics and served as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Thiruvadanai constituency after winning the 2016 election.
