Biography

Michael McCullers, born on January 13, 1971, in Alabama, is a screenwriter, director, and producer known for his work on popular comedies and animated films. Raised in the suburb of Indian Springs Village, Alabama, McCullers attended Indian Springs School, a private high school, where he was awarded a National Merit Scholarship. He later pursued higher education at a university, though specific details on his college education are limited.

McCullers began his writing career on Saturday Night Live (SNL) in the late 1990s. His work on SNL caught the attention of comedian Mike Myers, leading to a pivotal collaboration on the second and third installments of the Austin Powers series—Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)—both of which became major successes. His work on these films helped establish him in Hollywood, showcasing his talent for crafting witty, satirical scripts.

In 2008, McCullers expanded his career to directing with the comedy Baby Mama, starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, further highlighting his knack for character-driven humor. Over the years, he has written for several other notable films, including Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014), The Boss Baby (2017), and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018).

His partnership with DreamWorks Animation continued as he contributed to The Boss Baby: Family Business in 2021. Most recently, he worked on the screenplay for Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (2023) and is expected to write the highly anticipated Shrek 5.

McCullers currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and four children, balancing his personal and professional life while continuing to impact the animation and comedy genres through his screenwriting.
