Born on June 5, 1965, in Los Angeles, California, Tyler Bates grew up in Chicago. His early musical journey included playing in the hair metal band Smash Alley. In 1993, he returned to Los Angeles to pursue a music career, marking the beginning of his prolific path as a composer and producer.
Career Beginnings and Breakthrough
Bates began his career in the 1990s, scoring low-budget films such as The Last Time I Committed Suicide and Denial. He was also a member of the alternative rock band Pet, alongside Lisa Papineau; the band released their eponymous debut in 1996. His breakthrough into mainstream cinema came in the early 2000s with projects like Get Carter, Half Past Dead, and Baadasssss!. A significant milestone was his collaboration with director Zack Snyder on the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, which led to further partnerships on films like 300, Watchmen, and Sucker Punch.

Tyler Bates is renowned for his work in the action and horror genres. He has composed scores for films such as The Devil's Rejects, Halloween, and Halloween II, collaborating with director Rob Zombie.
