Anu Malik

Biography

Anu Malik, also known as Anwar Malik, has his finger on the pulse of the commercial mainstream music of India, delivering hits that are lovable, delightful, and above all, marketable to Bollywood's regular audience.

Anu Malik was the son of famous composer Sardar Malik and got his first break with the film Poonam in 1981. After composing for almost a decade, Anu received wide recognition with the film Baazigar in 1993, which also won him a Filmfare Award for Best Music Director.

It was around this time that Anu provided some of his best music for films such as 'Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi', Sir, and Akele Hum Akele Tum. In 2001, Anu won a National Film Award for Best Music Director for 'Refugee'. Anu occasionally dabbles with playback singing, too.

He won his second Filmfare Award in 2004 for the film 'Main Hoon Na'. His song "Chamma Chamma" from the film China Gate was also used in the movie 'Moulin Rouge'.

Is one of India's best music composers. His success came after he won an award for Baazigar (1993).

Often does playback singing in movies that he composes.

His daughter Anmol Malik is also a playback singer in recent times.

Elder brother of Daboo Malik.

After Yalgaar, Feroz was toying around with several ideas for his next film. He wanted to remake his film Dharmatma as "Agnikund" with Anil Kapoor as the Godfather. Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty were to play his sons.

The music was by Anu Malik. He earlier wanted to make the same film with himself, Anil Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff in 1987 with the title "Yalgaar". But that film was shelved due to Anil Kapoor disagreeing when Feroz Khan dropped Jackie from the film.

He later started Yalgaar with himself and Sanjay Dutt, but with a different subject and storyline. Anil Kapoor refused "Agnikund" in 1994 because he did not want to play father to Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty.

Feroz Khan shelved the idea once again. He then started Janasheen in 1995 with Akshaye Khanna and Mamta Kulkarni. That too got shelved so he could launch Fardeen in Prem Aggan.

Toronto-based Indo-Canadian, one hit wonder singer "Anu" took his stage name after his idol, Anu Malik. He had a hit single in 1996 titled "Have You Ever". The song was a rage in nightclubs all over Canada.

Father Sardar Malik was producing a film . Khama Productions "Ruk Jaa Diwane" (1974). Starring Neetu Singh, Virendra Bagga. Music and Produced by Sardar Malik. The film got shelved.
