Biography

Born in a Gujerati-speaking family on June 8, 1957, daughter to businessman, Chunnibhai and Betty, Dimple has a younger sister, Simple, who was born on 15 August 1958.

She was discovered by Raj Kapoor, who signed her up opposite his son, Rishi, in the 1973 hit 'Bobby'. The film made Rishi and her stars overnight, at the time of the film she was just 16 years old.

Exactly 6 months before the release of 'Bobby' Dimple who was a mad fan of super-star Rajesh Khanna, met and married the actor. Rajesh was 15 years older than her. After her marriage, she quit films.

On Rajesh's 32nd birthday, a daughter, Twinkle nicknamed Tina, was born to them. Then on July 27, 1977, Dimple and Rajesh became parents of Rinke, who would later also become an actress in her own right.

Dimple and Rajesh separated in 1982, enabling her to make a come-back to the tinsel screen with 'Zakhmi Sher'. She continues to act and has over 69 movies to her credit, some of them the more popular ones being 'Saagar', 'Insaaf', 'Zakhmi Aurat', 'Ram Lakhan', & 'Batwara'.

Sister of Bollywood actress Reem Kapadia. She passed away from an overdose in 1990. Many had connected her with the infamous Hinduja Flesh Trade scandal. Some reports even suggested she took her own life.

Was to star in the female version of Amar Akbar Anthony with sisters Reem Kapadia and Salma Agha. It was to be made in Hindi as Seeta Salma Suzy and in Bengali as Lakhi Durga Saraswati. The star cast was later changed to Moon Moon Sen, Sudha Chandran, and Archana Puran Singh. Only the Bengali version was released.

 

Dimple was only sixteen years old when Raj Kapoor introduced her in 'Bobby' (1973). She also got married to Bollywood superstar Rajesh Khanna at the age of 16. Despite the enormous success of 'Bobby', she then took a sabbatical from acting to raise her children.

Cousin of actor Kirit Kapadia. Kirit was engaged to model Renu Rawal in 1989. She passed away under mysterious circumstances on December 31, 1989. She was missing the entire evening at a new year's Eve party. She was found limp on the ground fifty feet below.

She was signed for Paap aur Punya opposite Shashi Kapoor. She quit the film when she got married to Rajesh Khanna.

 

Went to the Fiji Islands for a stage concert in 1986. She was accompanied by Rishi Kapoor, Asrani, and Prem Chopra. A young Ranbir Kapoor also came along for the trip.

Brother name is Suhail Kapadia (Munna) . He is a recovering drug addict and is married to Upaasna Laali (Upaasna Suhail Kapadia). For years he was in Asha Chandra's acting classes and aspired to be an actor in films. He was born on October 29, 1961, and passed away from a car accident.

Her father Chunnibai Kapadia was good friends with H.S Rawail. He would frequent the sets of the film Mere Mehboob. It was thru this association that the Kapadias got close to Sadhana and her husband R.K. Nayyar. The Kapadias also befriended Rajendra Kumar. So close was Chunnibai Kapadia to Rajendra that he gave his daughter Amina the nickname "Dimple" after Rajendra's daughter Dimple Tulli.

 

Manmohan Desai had signed Dimple for Roti opposite Rajesh Khanna. She opted out of the film.

 

Father Chunnibai Kapadia was producing the film "Majnoon" (1979). Starring Rajesh Khanna, Rakhee Gulzar, Directed by Kamal Amrohi. The film got shelved.

Has a cousin named Mamta Bhayani who debuted in the Nukkad TV serial. She was also known as Mamta Kapadia. She later married director Sameer Malkan. She is now known as Mamta Malkan and is settled in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

 

 

Was involved with actor Vijayendra Ghatge while she was married to Rajesh Khanna.

In 1987 Rinke was signed to play Dimple's daughter in Muzaffar Ali's Zooni (Habba Khatoon).

Anwar Ali announced a film with Dimple Kapadia and Vijayendra Ghatge in 1983. The film got shelved.
